Today, we are going to discuss the 7 best free keyword research tools. With the help of these tools, you will find very high potential keywords with excellent monthly search volume and with the lowest possible competition.
What is keyword research?
Keyword research is a fundamental yet essential task in Search Engine Optimization. It is based on identifying the most popular phrases and words that people type in search engines.
Keyword research helps the marketers in getting a better understanding of the specific keywords, like how difficult it is going to be to rank these keywords, and how many people are looking for these keywords by checking the search volume of these specific keywords.
Though, this is not the limit of keyword research because researching a keyword also helps you in finding the variants of words and phrases which people are searching online.
That gives the marketer a broad idea about his business/website, and he gets to know what other things he has to cover in his search campaign (a.k.a SEO strategy).

7 Best Free Keyword Research Tools Review
Now, getting back to the topic. You can use these keywords anywhere in your blog or your Google Ads campaign and make a handsome profit out of them.
Therefore, read these 7 best free keyword research tools reviews and let me know in the comments section about your opinions.
#1 Wordtracker: Free Keyword Research Tool
Number one on our list is the Wordtracker keyword tool.
This tool has some premium plans, but you can use it for free as well, with a limit of 12 keyword searches per day and 50 keywords per day.
You can find the best keywords that you can use in your blog articles or your PPC campaigns with confidence. Because the Wordtracker keyword tool helps you find the best low competition and high search volume keywords for your organic and paid campaigns.
As you can see in the above picture, I have searched for “make money online” for example.
You can see the tool says, “50 of 50 keywords for ‘make money online’ which means, you can get 50 keywords daily from the Wordtracker free keyword research tool. (Whereas, there are many more keywords available on this topic, which you can get with the Wordtracker premium account – Join their risk-free 7 days trial of premium service)
If you have a list of keywords, then you can click on the “IMPORT” button and import your keywords list by pasting multiple seed keywords or by uploading a CSV file without headers and keywords in only one column. (See the following picture)
You can add different keywords from the left side “Suggestions” panel, and then you can export your list of keywords by clicking on the “EXPORT” button.
You can also filter the search engine. Wordtracker provides free keyword research details from multiple engines like Google, Amazon, YouTube, eBay.
You can even select a specific GEO location from the “Territory” dropdown menu and select any country or Global location. That is very helpful when you are doing local SEO for any specific location.
You can see that by default, the results are sorted by the high-to-low search volume. You can filter these results with the help of blue filter buttons just above the results and can find out the best high potential keywords for your need.
It has the option for including and excluding the words from the keywords result list, which becomes very handing when you do not want to see some specific terms in your keywords, or you may want to see results related to particular search terms.
You can see in the top black bar at “11 searches remaining.” That means you can search today for 11 more keywords with 50 results, and then you will reach your daily limit. In other words, you can get 12 x 50 = 600 keywords results per day with the Wordtracker keyword tool for the freehand that is a very reasonable outcome from such a detailed keyword research tool.
#2 Answer The Public: Free Keyword Tool
Number 2 on our lists Answer the public.
As you can see, this free keyword tool’s interface is kind of unique, and well, it makes me sometimes laugh 😄 (this guy’s expressions). Let’s see how it works.
For example, we type a keyword, let’s say, “make money online” and click on the search button. After clicking the button, now we know that what other keywords people are searching around this make money online keyword (see the following picture). We can target these different keywords, and we can write articles around them as well, which is very helpful if you are targeting medium to high competition keywords.
You can download CSV, and you can also save the results as an image file. You can make the comparison, see the prepositions, see the results in alphabetical order, and find out about the related search terms.
Our search has found “60 questions” related to making money online keyword, which you can visualize in an image, and along with that, you can see the results in table form by clicking on the “Data” tab.
These questions are practically being asked in search engines; people are frequently typing them. That is something that other free keyword research tools may not deliver you with such an in-depth and accurate level.
I recommend that you use these questions in your articles while writing about the specific topic because it will help you boost your ranking and get a high amount of visitors by answering these questions in your post/article.
Answer the public keyword tool is delivering an enormous amount of keywords for free, but if you are looking for even more than you can upgrade to Answer The Public Pro by paying them monthly or annually.
Though, if you are doing basic keyword research, then I don’t recommend that you should go for the pro plan because you’ll be having enough keywords once you have completed your keyword research, with the help of all 7 listed free keyword research tools here.
You can find the competition level in the Answer The Public keyword research tool, categorized by green color depth -> Dark green means low competition, and the light green means high competition.
The only problem with Answer the public free keyword tool is that it does not show the search volume and such other stats.
Tip: You can export the results from Answer the public and then import it to the Wordtracker or any other tool (which I will discuss later in this post) to fetch the keyword stats.
#3 Soovle: Free Keyword tool
Here we go with the number 3 free keyword research tool in our list, which is Soovle.
As you can see in the picture, this tool gathers the data from multiple places on the internet like Google, Wikipedia, Amazon, Answers, YouTube, Bing, and Yahoo. You have to type your seed keyword, for example, “make money online” in the search box and DO NOT press the “Soovle” button because Soovle will start showing results as you type.
Now, Soovle will take care of the rest of the task and bring you results from multiple places, a very time-saving feature of this free keyword research tool.
As you can see in the above picture, Soovle shows the top keywords from each place in its relevant section. If you type “make money,” you will see some results in the Wikipedia section. (Try it yourself)
Therefore, you can try different variants of your keywords and phrases to get the best and maximum possible result out of the Soovle keyword tool.
It is an excellent keyword tool; if you are a YouTuber and want to find some top keywords for your next video, you can type your topic in Soovle and get the top keyword ideas from the YouTube section of this keyword tool. You can use all of these keywords in your YouTube SEO by typing them in your video titles, description, and tags.
Just like YouTube, if you are more indulged in Bing search or Yahoo search, then you can get the top keyword ideas for Bing and Yahoo as well, and start writing your content around these keywords.
If you click on the “Soovle” button, it will open your search keyword in the selected “default search engine” in a new tab.
As you can see in the picture, you can always change and select your required default search engine by clicking on your relevant search engine icon. (Try it and be amazed!)
#4 InstaKeywords: Free Keyword Research Tool
Number 4 in our list of best free keyword tools is InstaKeywords.
InstaKeywords require you to sign-up, and then you can do anything in this keyword research tool for free. Just fill in your email and password, and click on the Sign-Up button.
You will then receive an email from InstaKeywords, containing eight digits code. Please open the email, copy the code, and paste it in the Instakeywords website, where it is asked.
Once you have successfully confirmed your account, you will see the following dashboard.
As you can see in the above picture, you will have to:
- Type your search query in the “Type your seed keyword” box.
- Select your required language. The default is English.
- Select your target GEO location. Default is Global (Word wide).
- You can enable/disable a detailed research option. By enabling this feature, you can get ten times more results than average results.
- Generate suggestions to get the results.
Let’s do an example. As you can see in the above picture, I have searched for a key phrase, “make money online.”
Instakeywords free keyword research tool gives 100 free monthly searches to each registered user. If you want to have more monthly searched, you can upgrade to get Instakeywords unlimited searches per month.
Getting back to the example, you can see that make money online keyword has 201000 searches per month and have an average CPC (Cost per Click) of $1.48. At the same time, it has an ultra-hard competition (high competition).
The best thing about this free keyword research tool is that it gives you keyword search trends. Click on the “eye” icon, and you will see how many searches are being performed for this specific keyword, each month, from the last 12 months.
This “Trends” feature is beneficial for determining that your keyword is every green or seasonal.
If you have Adsense configured on your website, then you should always watch the CPC of each keyword that you are focusing on.
In this example, we can see the CPC is $1.48 that means if you are ranking for this keyword and generating traffic through this keyword, then you may be paid $1.48 per click or similar through Google Adsense.
Whereas, this keyword is not easy to rank, as the Instakeyword tool is showing it in the “Competition” tab that it is ultra-hard to rank for this keyword.
Though you can see many other keywords in these results where this keyword research tool is indicating that these keywords are “Great” (e.g., “make money GTA online”), these keywords are relatively easy to rank as compared to “Make money online” type of ultra-hard keywords.
Overall it is a useful keyword research tool, but yes, you have to sign-up/register for using the Intakeyword free keyword tool.
#5 KTD: Keyword Tool Dominator | Free Keyword research tool
Our next free keyword research tool is KTD – Keyword Tool Dominator.
Keyword Tool Dominator is a free keyword research tool, and it does have a premium/upgraded version.
But, even with the free keyword tool dominator, you can find valuable keywords without paying anything, that can help you dominate in your niche.
You can do keyword research related to specific search engines like Amazon, Bing, eBay, Etsy, Google, Google Shopping, Walmart, and YouTube all for free.
In my opinion, this makes this tool an outstanding option because you can do keyword research on multiple search engines, or I would say you can research on your specifically targetted search engine.
For example, if you want to do keyword research on Amazon, click on the “Try it free” button, and you will get two free searches per day.
As you can see in the above picture, Keyword Tool Dominator is a detailed and comprehensive keyword research tool, with multiple premium options but for free, with limitations.
You can select keyword research mode by clicking on ‘normal,’ ‘precise,’ or ‘broad’ mode.
You can select a specific region based Amazon marketplace and a particular category/department based on your niche.
You can mention that what words should be included in results and which words should be ignored like we say positive keywords and negative keywords in our day to day discussions.
Along the lines, you can mention the keyword’s length by selected word count and much more.
I am really impressed with KTD free keyword research tool. I would recommend that one should try their premium keyword tool dominator as well because it is a very detailed keyword tool.
Note: In the KTD results page, under the Top-10 tab, if you see a red Star, then it means that it is tough to rank that keyword.
